Candles vs Wax Melts

Candles vs Wax Melts - a short story :)

A common question we get is why don't your candles smell as strong as your wax melts? - Here's why.......

Short version: Wax melts smell stronger very quickly as all of the wax is melted at once, whereas a candle takes a couple of hours to slowly melt a decent amount of wax before releasing the scent.

Candles and wax melts perform differently, and wax melts often deliver a stronger hot throw because all of the wax is melted purely for fragrance release. Candles, on the other hand, involve more variables—wick type, wax blend, fragrance load, and vessel—which can affect how quickly and strongly the scent fills a room. As a result, wax melts usually smell stronger and disperse fragrance faster, while candles tend to offer a softer, more gradual scent experience. A well‑made candle with the right wick, vessel, and formulation will still achieve an excellent fragrance release once it has had time to form a full melt pool, which can take a couple of hours. For best performance, candles should be burned for a minimum of 2 hours and a maximum of 4 hours at a time for a 30cl size candle. If you want quick fragrance, melts are the fastest option; if you have more time and enjoy the calming glow of a flame, a candle is the perfect choice.
